Five contracts of VSAT communication services for Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BBRI)’s automatic teller machine (ATM) network will end in 2016-2017. BRIsat is estimated to take over VSAT communication services via third parties for the entire ATM network of BRIsat.
Asmawi Syam, the President Director of BBRI, said that BRIsat was operated to fulfill the company’s data communication requirement, including 22.792 ATM and e-banking. Before having a satellite, BRI had to rent 23 transponders with a price of 500 billion IDR per year. Asmawi claimed that BRIsat usage could reduce the operational cost to 200 billion IDR per year.
BRIsat is now being operated by the company from its command center in Ragunan after being transferred from the Space System Loral (SSL). Satellite operational and maintenance costs are estimated to reach 70 billion IDR-90 billion IDR and will appear in the BBRI financial statement on the third quarter of 2016.
Four contracts of VSAT services will expire on September-December 2016 including VSAT services for 5.000 ATM offsite BBRI with a total value of 179,67 billion IDR. There is a VSAT Satkomindo contract with BBRI worth 66,95 billion IDR that will expire on December 2017. (*)
