Market Tends to Wait and See Ahead of the Brexit Referendum

Market participants are expected to trade cautiously and to be on a “wait-and-see” stance ahead of the Britain Exit (Brexit) referendum on Thursday (23/6) evening, local time. The poll results last showed 51% of respondents voted for Britain to stay in the European Union (Bremain).

Taye Shim, Head of Research at Daewoo Securities Indonesia, suggested that the market players should wait and see ahead of the British referendum. Last Wednesday (22/6), foreign investors recorded net sales worth Rp 124 billion.

Composite Stock Price Index (JCI) was volatile in the range of 4789-4940 points over the last three weeks because of the changes in the quickcount result held by several quickcount institutions that has boosted the sentiment in the market. If it were to Brexit, volatility in the market will increase and there will be a risk of pressing JCI. But if Bremain were to happen, then JCI will strengthen as it gets a boost of positive sentiments. (*)
